The Kombat Pack of Mortal Kombat 1 introduces a trio of characters hailing from the pages of comic books: Peacemaker, Omni-Man (known from Invincible), and Homelander (featured in The Boys). All three have graced television screens in recent years, with John Cena and J. K. Simmons portraying the former two. For MK1, they are revisiting their respective roles, although Antony Starr’s involvement remains shrouded in mystery.
Amidst the silence from NetherRealm, fans have resorted to speculation, pondering the possibility of another actor assuming Homelander’s mantle. Yet, one fan, maxium_mishima, refused to remain in the realm of conjecture. They decided to engage directly with Starr via his Instagram account, where they inquired, “LOOKING BEAUTIFUL ANTHONY. Will you be voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1?”
Starr’s response was enigmatic, consisting solely of the uttered sound “mmmmmmm.” It neither confirmed nor denied his involvement, fueling the ongoing speculation.
The curious aspect in all this is that Simmons and Cena were announced in unison as they reprised their roles in the game. While information regarding Starr’s participation has been conspicuously absent. The reasons behind this silence remain a mystery. With possibilities including ongoing negotiations or NetherRealm’s intent to unveil the actor’s involvement through a trailer.
It is worth noting that the release of the Kombat Pack is spread across 2024. Omni-Man will be the first to arrive, followed by Quan-Chi and Peacemaker, with Homelander scheduled for a later spring release. Perhaps his delayed inclusion in the initial DLC roster is the cause behind NetherRealm and Ed Boon’s reluctance to disclose further details about his character.
A rather imaginative theory emerged a couple of months ago on the Mortal Kombat 1 subreddit, proposed by sss133. They suggested that Ed Boon’s omission of Starr’s name when mentioning Simmons and Cena might have been a simple lapse of memory.
Although this theory is far from accurate, it’s worth mentioning that the individual who queried him on Instagram about voicing Homelander mistakenly referred to him as ‘Anthony’ instead of ‘Antony.’ However, it’s crucial to emphasize that this error doesn’t lend any credence to the theory.
While the anticipation for Starr’s involvement in MK1 persists, we’ve gained insight into the upcoming Invasions season. Timed perfectly for Halloween, it’s center around Nitara and the realm of vampires.
A distinct version of Nitara, originating from a timeline dominated by Vaternians. Crossing over into Fire God Liu Kang’s timeline, causing several iconic Mortal Kombat characters to take on the guise of vampires.
