Why are fireworks booming out everywhere?

Fireworks are indeed booming in the United States today. There are many fireworks sales being held throughout the year. However, some states have prohibited public display of fireworks due to the tragic July 4th fireworks accidents in Colorado, California, and New Mexico that claimed the lives of so many innocent people. So where do we find these fireworks? Here is a brief list of popular state and local firework displays during the week of July 4th.

– Iowa. Outdoor fireworks are widely held and enjoyed during the Independence Day celebrations. Many large fireworks shows are held in Iowa all throughout the summer and into early September. Although a few cities have laws prohibiting the public display of fireworks, most cities welcome fireworks sales to help celebrate Independence Day.

– Milwaukee. On the night of July 3rd, Milwaukee residents and tourists can view “LP rockets” or large fireworks in the city’s Wisconsin Riverfront Park. Although Wisconsin has become a world-class fireworks authority over the past several decades, officials and residents in Milwaukee still caution against holding large public fireworks events. Large fireworks will attract a crowd of people who want to get into the park after dark and may also attract illegal fireworks use. A small and highly organized group of Milwaukee residents may have a hand in defeating the fireworks display in Milwaukee on Independence Day.

– Illinois. Although Illinois hasn’t had any major fireworks accidents or public displays of fireworks over the past few years, there are still several cities that have banned the public display of fireworks. In early June, Joliet, IL implemented a new law that prohibits anyone from owning or displaying any type of fireworks, regardless of size or sound level. The Joliet fireworks ban was later expanded to encompass several other towns including Arlington and Hoffman Estates. Arlington and Hoffman Estates are two cities that have experienced increases in property crime rates, which may negatively impact the successful lighting of fireworks in these areas. Also, officials in Arlington and Hoffman Estates have said that they will continue to implement security measures in the hopes of reducing the number of irresponsible fireworks owners.

– Wisconsin. In early July, the Wisconsin state government announced that they would be taking the steps necessary to enforce a new law that makes it illegal to possess fireworks anywhere in the state. The law specifically makes it illegal to display any type of pyrotechnic device in a publicly owned park, festival, or any recreational area. The only exception to the law would be if the device is being used for scientific research. A state representative spoke out against the Journal Sentinel’s plan to publish this story, saying that the state will effectively prevent the publication of stories based on unverified sources.

– Milwaukee. During the late summer months, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel published an article about how empty shelves in a public storage facility in Milwaukee were being filled by homemade fireworks. Many people living nearby were posting signs warning people not to bring their fireworks into the facility, but the Journal Sentinel decided that they were just being polite. On July 4th, the newspaper published an article with the headline “Empty Shelves fuel explosion of hobby firecrackers,” which explained how the explosion occurred. The article provided photographs from the scene, including one that showed a black smoke detector going off just as the fireworks were exploding.

– Wisconsin. On Independence Day, Milwaukee’s WTMJ radio reported that a Wisconsin man had been arrested after he was caught using hundreds of fireworks in a public display at a Wisconsin park. The man, identified as 36-year-old Zoldan Said, was arrested after he was found by authorities at a public park where he was attempting to set up an illegal fireworks sale. The man had been setting up the fireworks sales at the park using expensive crackers for the customers to purchase. He was questioned by officers and later released.

– USA. In July, the nation witnessed yet another public display of fireworks when a group of tourists from Florida attempted to light the fuse on an old Chinese warship in San Diego, California. Although the tourists successfully ignited the ship’s powder kegs, the tourists were apprehended and later fined. The tourists were also ordered to remove all fireworks from their homes. No laws were broken, but the explosion of fireworks during Independence Day was still considered to be inappropriate.
