“There is no political action we can take to stop climate inactitude. We must choose to adapt or die.” That is from a recent documentary by award-winning journalist Amy Pohl. The title of the documentary, Carbon Dioxide Emissions, makes the case that we need a new system of global warming policy and the leadership to institute such a system if we are to save the earth.
Climate inactivity is not the same as not caring. There is a difference. While global warming alarmists try to scare us with dire predictions of catastrophic weather, extreme weather, ice melt, drought, superstorm, floras, and the rest, those events are very rare. Still, the political action they seek is to impose political action on the entire world so they can stop what they are doing.
Unfortunately, those who are most impacted by these events are the people who live in areas of the world that are most vulnerable to rapid climate change. They are the ones who will bear the brunt of the political rhetoric, and the regulations that are passed in an attempt to control emissions. The same individuals who will suffer the most are those who live in industrialized nations where most of the carbon dioxide emissions come from. Most governments at the national level do not want to deal with the problem because their individual economic growth depends on it.
This type of action by governments is not solution thinking. It is climate denial. When there is political action based on a false premise; that somehow carbon dioxide is not a problem and it is the responsibility of humans to solve the problem; that premise becomes self-defeating. There is no way that these nations can fulfill their obligations under the Kyoto Protocol if they do not protect their economy. These nations cannot continue to be industrial nations if they continue to allow carbon dioxide to pollute the atmosphere.
The solutions to this problem are not political action or regulations. The solutions are from within each nation and every person. Each one of us has the ability to change our behavior and create a better climate inactitude. We need to begin to act as responsible adults and stop procrastinating on reducing the carbon dioxide emissions that are destroying our planet.
The Kyoto Protocol was supposed to be a top-down international effort to control greenhouse gas emissions. However, it was not done so, and now the world is on the verge of a complete failure. In order for any country to be successful in reducing greenhouse gases, there has to be a system put in place that works and that is effective. It is up to each of us to put ourselves in the role of the system and help make it work. That may mean that we have to turn down our air conditioning or go to work a little later or spend more time with the family.
There is no reason for the citizens of developed nations to accept climate inactitude. It’s not our place to tell them how to live or what to do. Each nation has the right to choose its own leadership. However, if the citizens of the world refuse to take immediate political action and start taking steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, it could lead to a complete collapse of the global warming theories. This may lead to mass political demonstrations all over the world, which could incite even further rebellion against the human population.
The best solution to climate inactitude and global warming is for each individual to make personal choices. Our individual choices can make a tremendous difference in helping to conserve our natural resources. It doesn’t cost anything and it won’t take much effort. As a collective, we can help the world stay healthy, keep its temperature stable and protect the future of the human species.
