The Witch Queen: release date and what to expect
It’s finally here. After months of speculation and anticipation, Bungie has finally announced the release date for the next expansion for Destiny 2, The Queen. Arriving on May 11th, The Queen will bring with it a whole host of new content for players to enjoy, including a brand new destination to explore, new weapons and gear to collect, and a whole host of new challenges to overcome. Here’s everything we know about The Queen so far.
The Queen will see the return of Queen Mara Sov, the ruler of the Awoken who was thought to have been killed during the events of The Taken King. Mara Sov has been a key figure in the Destiny lore since the very beginning, and her return is sure to have major implications for the game’s story. Along with Mara Sov, players will also be reunit with her sister, Prince Uldren. Uldren was last see in The Taken King as the leader of the Taken, and his return is sure to be a controversial one.
The new destination players will be exploring is the moon of Luna. This new area said to be twice the size of the previous destination, the Dreaming City, and will feature a brand new public event, as well as a new dungeon. The new public event called “The Queen’s Court” and will see players teaming up to take down waves of enemies, as well as a Taken Boss. The new dungeon called “The Scarlet Keep” and will task players with exploring the keeps of Scarlet Keep, as well as taking down the powerful bosses that reside within.
In addition to the new content coming in The Witch Queen, Bungie is also making some changes to the game’s economy. The first of these is the introduction of a new currency, called “Bright Dust.” Bright Dust can earned by completing activities such as Public Events, Lost Sectors, and the new dungeon. It can then used to purchase a variety of items from Eververse, including new emotes, ornaments, and weapons.
