San Diego State Aztecs fans need not fret about the scorching temperatures when attending home games at Snapdragon Stadium this season. The Mountain West conference recently unveiled the kickoff times for nine out of the twelve games on SDSU’s schedule for the 2023 college football season, and there are no midday kickoffs among them.
The memory of last year’s sweltering Snapdragon debut against Arizona. With temperatures reaching a record-breaking 100 degrees, remains etched in the minds of countless SDSU fans. However, they can take solace in the fact that none of the team’s four home games in the first month of this season will commence until late afternoon or evening.
SDSU will commence the season with three consecutive nonconference home games. The matchup against Ohio on August 26 will kick off at 4 p.m. Followed by the game against Idaho State on September 2 at 7:30 p.m. The Aztecs will then face off against UCLA on September 9 at 4:30 p.m., a nationally-televised game on CBS, in which they aim to replicate their historic victory over the Bruins at the Rose Bowl in 2019.
The fourth game of the season will see SDSU playing a midday game with a 12:30 p.m. kickoff at Oregon State on September 16. This game will broadcast on FS1. The Aztecs will return home the following week for their only Friday game of the season, with a 7:30 p.m. matchup against Boise State on September 22, marking the beginning of Mountain West conference play.
The first half of the season will conclude with a conference game against Air Force on September 30, with a 5 p.m. PDT kickoff. The kickoff times for the home games against Nevada, Utah State, and Fresno State have not yet been announce. These games will be broadcast on the Fox network. Kickoff times are revealed two weeks prior to the game to provide scheduling flexibility.
For the final three road games, CBS Sports Network will televise the matchups. Firstly, SDSU will face Hawaii on October 14 at 8 p.m. PDT. Subsequently, they will take on Colorado State on November 11 at 4 p.m. PDT. Finally, they will go up against San Jose State on November 18 at 7:30 p.m.
With most of the schedule details in place. The focus now shifts to potential additions from the transfer portal for SDSU football. Head coach Brady Hoke anticipates acquiring up to eight transfers, although only three have committed to the Aztecs thus far. SDSU returns nine starters from last season’s 7-6 team. Which concluded with a narrow 25-23 loss to Middle Tennessee State in the EasyPost Hawaii Bowl.
