The head coach of the Buffalo Bills, Sean McDermott, characterized the current situation involving the wide receiver, Stefon Diggs, as “optimistically positioned,” as the team commenced their training camp at St. John Fisher University on Wednesday.
Diggs was present and actively participated in the team’s inaugural practice of the camp, having missed the initial mandatory minicamp session in June.
Initially, Sean McDermott expressed significant worry regarding Diggs’ absence before the practice he missed; however, on the following day, the coach stated that he had granted the wide receiver permission after certain discussions took place. The coach clarified that he always feels concern when a player misses practice.
“In particular, with a player as vital as Stef, my sentiments remain the same,” said McDermott in June. “I am apprehensive whenever players miss practices, whether it’s due to off-field or on-field reasons, be it injury-related or otherwise. That’s just how I am. So, when I use the term ‘very concerned,’ it truly reflects my genuine concern for the situation involving one of our players, and it was something we need to address. Those are constructive dialogues that occur, and I am incredibly appreciative of such exchanges. Engaging in such healthy conversations leads us to a better standpoint, and I feel quite optimistic about our current position.”
During the minicamp practice he attended, Diggs participated in individual drills but refrained from team drills. The wide receiver was not present for other voluntary offseason activities.
In June, quarterback Josh Allen disclosed that they were internally working on some matters, but he and other teammates offered their unwavering support for Diggs and were confident that everything would resolved satisfactorily.
