Mauricio Pochettino, the esteemed head coach of Chelsea, has been vocal about his desire for a more experienced midfield, particularly on the defensive front. This has intensified our pursuit of Moisés Caicedo, the talented midfielder from Brighton, who, despite being just 21, is consider the prime candidate for the position, though his hefty price tag of £100m remains a sticking point. As of now, Chelsea’s highest offer stands at £80m. Should negotiations with Caicedo’s club prove fruitless in the coming days, we have already identified a couple of alternative options on our shortlist. Tyler Adams and Edson Álvarez are both season midfielders in their mid-20s, bringing ample experience to the table.
Tyler Adams, who currently captains the US Men’s National Team, was an impressive presence at RB Leipzig before joining Leeds United last summer. However, rumors suggest he might have a relegation clause in his contract at Leeds, making his availability intriguing.
On the other hand, Mexican international Álvarez was also consider last summer as we sought last-minute midfield reinforcements. Although there were past tensions between Álvarez and Chelsea, his move to Borussia Dortmund recently fell through, making him available once more and potentially at a more affordable price than the €50m offered last year.
Among other potential options, Gabri Veiga (21) and Roméo Lavia (19) have been mentioned in The Times’ report. Lavia’s link to Liverpool seems stronger, making Caicedo, with his promising abilities and experience, an attractive prospect to finalize the deal without further ado.
