On Saturday night, a fight erupted at Montgomery’s Riverfront Park in Alabama, leading to several individuals being taken into custody by the Montgomery Police Department. The incident occurred at the 200 block of Coosa Street in Montgomery at 7 p.m. and involved a large group of people engaging in the altercation.
According to reports, the fight appeared to have a racial divide, with a video of the incident shared on social media the following Sunday. The fight reportedly started because a pontoon boat was blocking dock space that was reserve for the Harriott II Riverboat. Witnesses say that the dispute initially involved a Black dock worker and a white man, which quickly escalated when other white individuals joined in and attacked the Black man.
In the video posted by Josh Moon of the Alabama Political Reporter, several white individuals can see attacking the lone Black man, who is believe to be the dock worker. Onlookers from the riverboat and the shore yelled for assistance, and some people from the shore eventually came to the Black man’s aid. The situation seemed to calm down after a Black man jumped into the water from the riverboat to help the victim.
Subsequent footage, posted by Lauryn Lauren, captured scenes after the Harriott II Riverboat was preparing to dock, where more fighting broke out between a group of people and those on the pontoon boat. At least one person fell into the water from the dock during this incident.
