Buffalo Bills General Manager Brandon Beane has emphatically stated throughout the entire offseason that he has no intention of making a high-profile free agency move akin to the Von Miller acquisition. However, Beane’s words were misleading, as news broke early on Monday morning that Buffalo is currently in the process of finalizing an agreement with Leonard Floyd, the former standout pass-rusher for the Los Angeles Rams. It is remarkable how this development resembles the Miller deal, both in terms of Floyd joining from the Rams and his well-established reputation as a dominant force in sacking opposing quarterbacks.
To recall, Miller secured an astronomical contract for his move last year and is presently undergoing rehabilitation, hoping to make his debut for the 2023 Bills in Week 6. Perhaps as a precautionary measure, Floyd enters the picture, as reported by the NFL Network, securing a one-year contract with Buffalo.
Despite experiencing a somewhat lackluster season with the Rams, Floyd, who is 30 years old, managed to accumulate nine sacks. Notably, he has consistently excelled in reaching the quarterback over the past three years, tallying impressive sack totals of 10.5, 9.5, and the aforementioned nine sacks. Additionally, he boasts a Super Bowl victory during his time in Los Angeles.
The Rams faced a financial decision and ultimately opted for a course of action. Leonard Floyd had previously signed a substantial four-year, $64 million contract with the Rams in 2021, entailing an average annual salary of $16 million. Consequently, the Bills have secured an absolute steal, acquiring a proven game-changer who also serves as insurance in the vein of Von Miller.
